A rare, original, political poster, Free Angela Davis, published by the Angela Davis Defence Committee (London) c.1971. Angela Yvonne Davis (a Marxist American academic and activist) was arrested in 1971 in connection with a courtroom shooting in Marin County, California, in which four people were killed during a failed attempt to ‘spring’ three black men standing trial for the murder of a prison guard. Davis was charged with supplying the firearms used in the shooting and was initially placed on the FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list. Davis's subsequent arrest and incarceration resulted in a huge global campaign to “Free Angela Davis”, leading to her acquittal in 1972. A higher resolution image is available for viewing on request.
