An extremely rare pre-opening poster, Monty Python’s 1st Farewell Tour poster, Theatre Royal, London, 26 February to 9 March 1974. The Theatre Royal residency followed the Python’s 1973 UK & Canadian tour. It was such a success that the initial two-week engagement (advertised on this poster) was extended to four weeks. Terry Jones later recalled that “the Drury Lane run was the nearest most of us ever got to having a proper job. It was initially a nerve-wracking proposition, but at the same time it was somehow reassuring to find ourselves part of the 'theatrical establishment' even if it was an illusion”.
