The design features a sign 'This Way Up' with arrows in black against a red square background, which is placed upside-down. This copy appears to be a printer’s proof, with colour bar down the left-hand side.

Alan Fletcher was a British graphic designer and co-founder the influential Pentagram Design Studio in 1972. In his obituary, he was described by The Daily Telegraph as "the most highly regarded graphic designer of his generation, and probably one of the most prolific".
