The Winter's Tale
George MayhewAn original poster for the 1969/70 Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) production of The Winter’s Tale. Directed by Trevor Nunn, the production was notable for its stylised white décor, contemporary 1960s costumes, and the acclaimed doubling of the mother and daughter roles of Hermione and Perdita by Judi Dench. George Mayhew’s striking poster design was highly acclaimed at the time and beautifully screen printed by G&B Arts, although the extraordinary silver and gold printing technique is not adequately captured by digital photography. This poster is from the archive of the printer, G&B Arts. A higher resolution image is available on request.
